Collectable Riihimaki/ Riihimaen Lasi Oy Glassworks, “Tamara Aladin”, Uranium, Taalari Glass Dish

This is a rare one!

In fact I haven’t been able to find another quite like it and believe me I’ve looked! Designed by renowned Finnish glass artist Tamara Aladin between 1967 and 1983, the Taalari style pieces are sort after in and of themselves, but the fact that it is also uranium glass, really puts it over the edge for serious collectors.
This one is in pristine condition!

**”Uranium glass is glass which has had uranium, usually in oxide diurantate form, added to a glass mix before melting for colouration.
The normal colour of uranium glass ranges from yellow to green depending on the oxidation state and concentration of the metal ions, although this may be altered by the addition of other elements as glass colorants. Uranium glass also fluoresces bright green under ultraviolet light and can register above background radiation on a sufficiently sensitive Geiger counter, although most pieces of uranium glass are considered to be harmless and only negligibly radioactive.”…. and there you have it, a super cool chemistry lesson!
