Here we have two very old historical, commemorative mugs made by Crown Devon in England.

The first featuring a relief image of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth on the one side and our beloved bokkie on the other, commemorating the royal visit in 1947 (73 years ago!!).
There is some minor wear to the paint around the rim, but other than that this mug is in excellent condition!

I had to do a little research on the other one as I had no idea what the “Empire Exhibition” was, so here is a little blurb I nicked from a site called Antiquarianauctions.com who were selling a brochure to the event which took place in 1936 (84 years ago!!) Other than some crazing and a little roughness to the glaze around the rim, this sweet little mug featuring our bokkie on the other side is in excellent condition!

“The Empire Exhibition coincided with Johannesburg’s Jubilee and was staged on a grand scale to demonstrate the progress made by the British Empire during the past fifty years. With over twenty acres of industrial and commercial exhibits, pavilions displaying the products of Great Britain, the Dominions, Rhodesia and the East African Colonies, while separate buildings housed exhibits of the Transvaal Chamber of Mines, the Iscor Steel Works of Pretoria, the South African Railways and the Port of London Authority. Also conferences, technology and entertainment were on offer. The exhibition was held at Milner Park.”
